Whitmire Fine Jewelry is located in The Hammock Shops in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina.  There are so many wonderful places in and around Pawley’s Island that you have to visit while in this beautiful coastal Carolina area.  Some of our favorite places where we get design inspiration from, where we enjoy spending time at and places we just simply like are listed below.

Pawley’s Island

Pawley’s Island, South Carolina is a barrier island stretching approximately four miles long and at most places along the island, one house wide.  The barrier island is separated from the mainland by a naturally beautiful salt marsh which is accessible by two short causeways.  Originally settled by the families of rice planters in the early 1700's, Pawley’s Island still boasts 12 residences in the historic district which date from the late 1700's to the mid 1800's.  Pawley’ Island is known for its shoeless (or at least sockless), carefree, laidback lifestyle, which includes creeking, fishing, relaxing on Pawley’s famous rope hammocks and walking the unspoiled stretch of beach and sand dunes.  We sure like Pawley’s Island and hope you will also when you come visit our store in The Hammock Shops.

Midday Beach Shot Of Myrtle Beach South Carolina

Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina continues to be one of America’s most attractive places for families to vacation in the summer and one of the best areas for out-of-towners to invest in - but we enjoy Myrtle Beach year-round.  There is such a diverse selection of restaurants, quaint shops and entertainment venues that even locals frequent.  Myrtle Beach is slowly losing the nickname “Redneck Riviera” and is becoming a year-round location that welcomes business and commerce opportunities for people moving to the area.  With the addition of Hark Rock Park and the always-popular Broadway at the Beach, fun with friends and family never goes lacking.

Brookgreen Gardens

Simply put, Brookgreen Gardens is one of the most naturally beautiful places to visit in South Carolina and beyond.  Taking a walk through the sculpture gardens brings you closer to nature and gives you a deeper appreciation for the beauty that exists naturally throughout the Carolinas.  Other beautiful elements of Brookgreen Gardens are the river and wildlife viewing which can be seen from the nature cruises and safaris offered.  If you are looking to spend a relaxing day taking in the natural beauty of gardens, sculptures, art and area history, Brookgreen Gardens is a great place to put on your list.  Brookgreen Gardens is one of John Henry Whitmire’s favorite places to visit for design inspiration.

Brookgreen Gardens

Huntington Beach

Huntington Beach is one of the last non-commercialized beaches on South Carolina’s coast and has a completely different atmosphere than the bustling Myrtle Beach.  Huntington Beach is a part of Huntington Beach State Park, which includes more than just pristine beach access (as if this is not enough).  Other things to do while at Huntington State Beach include bird watching and visiting Atalaya, the Moorish-style winter home of Anna Hyatt and Archer Huntington who left the park and adjacent Brookgreen Gardens as their legacy for all of us to enjoy.

The Hammock Shops Village

The Hammock Shops Village is where our jewelry store is located in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina.  The Hammock Shops Village is probably most known for the Original Pawley’s Island Rope Hammocks that are world famous for their Lowcountry craftsmanship dating back to 1889.  In addition to The Original Hammock Shop, there are 22 unique specialty shops that comprise The Hammock Shops Village, along with quaint restaurants in a park-like that began back in 1938.  We love being located at The Hammock Shops Village and urge you to come visit us and take a relaxing stroll beneath the moss-draped oaks that surround you as you enjoy the beautiful azalea and camellia gardens.
